![]() First Nations people have always been a warm and caring people. I was honoured today to share Blanket BC's story of caring and warmth to the Elders at Mission Friendship Centre Society during their monthly luncheon. I spoke with amazing people who shared with me their trials and tribulations along with their successes and overcoming great challenges and obsticles. Most memorable was Mary, who shared with me and the group of how at 17 years of age she was homeless on the streets of Vancouver, back when there were no shelters, no help. Homeless, alone, and frightened, she told me that it was a blanket she relied on to give her warmth and a bit of security. Today, many years later, she escaped the streets and made a life for herself in Mission, where she is now and Elder and leads groups that help others. I would like to thank the Elders of the Mission Friendship Centre Society for welcoming me in such a manner that truly moved me. I look forward to meeting you again very soon! Warmest Regards, Gregory Ould Blanket BC Society ![]() "Over the past couple of years I have had the privelage to tell the story of Blanket BC's beginnings and where we are heading into the future. I have spoken with business leaders, members of the Chambers of Commerce as well as, and my favourite, children in schools. Oh how this generation will be such good leaders! Not only do I speak about Blanket BC, but I also touch on the importance of volunteering in your community as well as bullying, the latter I'm afraid, I know all too well. I would be more than honoured to speak either at your school, your business or even your home with friends." Dear Greg and Blanket BC,
Please accept our sincere thanks for your generosity! The month of December is our busiest time of year with young people flooding through our doors to escape the cold wet weather and to attend celebrations like our drop-in Christmas Party that we hold each year. This is always a huge success with usually 200 or more young people coming to enjoy Christmas dinner with us. Each leaves with not only a new backpack filled with items to make their lives more comfortable and a full stomach. They also leave knowing they are loved, accepted and have a place to grow and change. Your blankets will be a part of their gifts this year and will help keep them warm this winter. We are only able to be here each and every day because of caring people like you; you are truly helping us to change young lives for the better. We appreciate your support and friendship, especially at this time of the year when our youth are in need of extra love and kindness. Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you and yours! Kindest Regards, All of us at Covenant House Vancouver |
