Words of Warmth

12/27/2012

The following poem is by my friend Lalit. She shared with me her family struggles growing up and how a simple blanket she kept, gave her warmth and hope. I am humbled that we inspired her words of warmth and I would like to share them with you. Thank-you Lalit, you are one very special lady!

“Warmth from the Heart”
By Lalit Lal

A night of darkness
Cold and Wet
One shivers when the wind gets set
Frozen toes, hands and feet
Teeth clenches without any heat
As the cold wears on and on
One’s body becomes stiff and worn
As one longs for warmth and heat
Along came Blanket BC with great speed
The lifeless body, wrapped in a bundle
Slowly, warmth has won its battle
One has reason to be alive
Through such a little blanket that shines
Blanket BC and its cause will reign
For all the individuals that will gain
A precious life is saved each time
When Blanket BC spreads the warmth divine

Blanket BC Is Shown Warmth, from the Heart!

On November 23rd and 24th of this year, Blanket BC's Drive on the Line was in full force. With nearly 70 kind and warm hearted Blanketeers, and amazing Canada Line attendants helping, we collected nearly 2000 blankets and nearly $4000 in donations! The two day drive was a modest success compared to last years, however, we managed to capture the attention of others who wanted to help in our cause.

Over the past couple of weeks, Blanket BC has been shown some love from so many people, companies and students from elementary to high school. We have recieved phone calls, emails and even old school letters of thanks for the work we do. To be honest with you, its not the work Blanket BC does, its the message we send to those in most need that comes from you, the donor!

First, we had Heritage Park High School in Mission give out hundreds of blankets to Mission residents and "street survivors", then Blanket BC recieved a call from Harken Towing, where they offered over $1000 in blankets to our cause! Walmart in Mission then offered a $500 gift card to go towards the purchase of blankets to help with local families. It gets better...

Servants for Hope in Vancouver called and asked for help with their "Feed the Homeless" night, which took place on Monday, December 17th 2012. They were in search of a few hundred much needed blankets to give to the good people at Pigeon Park on the Downtown East Side of Vancouver. So, I made a call...one call...to one of the most generous companies I personally know; K-Bro Linen Services in Burnaby, led by very caring individuals, simply asked "how many?" Knowing there would possibly be more than 1000 individuals being helped, they immediately put together nearly 1200 blankets and directly sent them to the volunteers for preparation for the night. Volunteers wrapped them up and then, handed them out...all of them. Because of people, like you, who care, street survivors feel loved, cared for, and are feeling a bit warmer tonight. I experienced something that was magical, enlightening and even spiritual. It was love. Pure love.

In closing, I would like to personally thank everyone who donated a blanket, donated their time, and most of all, donated their warmth, from their heart! It's because of you we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of so many. Merry Christmas to you all! May 2013 bring us closer together.

Warmest Regards,

Gregory Ould, Founder
