Blanket BC Celebrates 100,000 Blankets Collected to Date!
This past week marked a wonderfully warm milestone for Blanket BC Society. After all the “Drive on the Line” campaigns, “Hike for the Homeless” events and a few fundraisers in between, and with the help from our amazing group of volunteers throughout the years, Blanket BC has collected over 100,000 blankets! All donations get divided up and sent to over 50 other organizations that help people in the most desperate of situations, which include homelessness, drug & alcohol addiction as well as physical & sexual abuse. BRIEF HISTORY “I could use a blanket to survive the night”. With those gut wrenching words, founder Gregory Ould took action and found a blanket for a man who was homeless on a cold October night over 7 years ago. Today, Greg’s son Benjamin (9) and younger sister Emma (5) are actively involved in what is now a successfully incorporated Society, led by a very talented and passionate group of volunteer directors. They, along with generous sponsors, community support, and a warm-hearted group of “Blanketeers”, have helped raise homelessness awareness throughout our community and have distributed over 100,000 blankets to date throughout the entire Lower Mainland. Our mission is to provide “warmth from the heart” by collecting blankets and warm articles of clothing for shelter programs and families in need. Blanket BC is currently looking for volunteers to join our board and to help spread the warmth. Kind financial donations would be very much appreciated as well! You guys do such great work. It's refreshing to see youngsters start volunteering at 9 and 5. Impressive would be an understatement. I hope you get recognized by our government for what you do too. God bless you all!
